“Eternal Flame of the Confederacy” lamp post on display

From COL Dietrichs

Gentlemen – It is my great pleasure to report to you that the “Eternal Flame of the Confederacy” lamp post, with our plaque on it, lit and dedicated December 14, 1939, during the festivities accompanying the opening of “Gone With The Wind” and which for many decades stood in Underground Atlanta, was been acquired with our efforts by the Atlanta History Center, and now stands proudly and for the foreseeable future as part of the display at the Atlanta Cyclorama in Buckhead.

I saw this last evening at the Grand Opening for the public, and will be there again tomorrow afternoon at which time I will have a photograph of it to send you. Gentlemen, this one is now safe!

Regards,

COL John A. Dietrichs
Past Commandant
Old Guard of the Gate City Guard
