Oglethorpe Light Infantry Flag

from COL John A. Dietrichs

Yesterday I drove to Thomasville, GA, to visit the Thomasville History Center and spend time with its Director, Ephraim Rotter, doing research on Ephraim Ponder, who owned the house  famously photographed in September, 1864, full of artillery shell holes, etc. Location now on the GA Tech campus, with a new building on it.

Colorized image attached for interest.

At their museum the Director showed me this OLI flag, restored sometime in the late 1960’s. You can see that it was captured on Dec. 21, 1864, when Sherman captured Savannah. I do not have the name or e-mail of anyone currently in the OLI, but thought one of you folks might with the Centennial Legion and could forward the picture.
