Some weeks ago, Col. Straut send me a an audio copy off a piece of music – The March of the Gate City Guards. I’ve uploaded the audio file to a streaming service called ‘Sound Cloud’ and if you CLICK THIS LINK, you can listen to it.
I was able to locate the sheet music for this piece in the Library of Congress. From the cover, you can see it was published in 1880. This would have been shortly after Capt. Burke and Company returned from the “Peace Mission” of 1879, a friendship tour he called the “peaceful invasion” of the North by the Guard.
